Are You Ready to Rise Up Laughing?
Crown & Torch Tutorials
Because we don't do monarchs, but we do love a good headpiece!
Whether you're leading chants, handing out zines, or just looking to throw shade at the throne, there's a crown here for you:
Quick & Dirty
(No Tools, No Excuses)
Minimal cuts, minimal time—maximum democratic sparkle. Great for mass-making, parades, or turning a protest into a craft hour.
Fast Cardboard Build
Staple some spikes to a strip of cardboard and you’re ready to reign (without ruling). Perfect for schools, summer camps, or street theatre
Paper Plate Flair
A cleaner, smoother version that holds up in wind and protest selfies. Add glitter or a slogan on each spike: Justice, Dignity, Ban Billionaires.
Intermediate Protest Chic
Takes a bit more time, but looks like you mean business. Cardboard, poster board, foam—it all works. Wear it like you’re the Spirit of ’76’s weird art student cousin.
Kid-Friendly Torch Build CraftProjectIdeas.com Torch Tutorial
Super simple and safe torch made from paper tubes and tissue paper. Perfect for younger protesters, family marches, or if you're going full ensemble with crown and flame. Want to level it up? Add an LED tea light inside and call it “The Light of the People.”
(for the Revolutionary on a Budget)
Grab some cardboard, felt, or even an old straw hat—and transform it into anti-monarchist glory.
Quick + Simple
Clean, structured, and easy to follow. This tutorial walks you through making a symmetrical, brimmed tricorn hat from scratch.
Stylish + Semi-Fancy
Sleeker version with cockade and more curve to the brim.
Deluxe Makeover: Upcycled Straw Hat "New Life for a Straw Hat" – Blog Tutorial Turn a thrift store straw hat into a sharp tricorn using hot glue, bias tape, and pure sass.
Fancy with Flair
A historically inspired build with extra visual pop. Great for reenactors, theater nerds, or anyone who wants to protest in full colonial drag.
Extra Touches
- Add a printed cockade that says "NO KINGS" or "PEOPLE POWER"
- Decorate with gold fringe, felt stars, or cut-out slogans
- Use scraps of flag-pattern fabric as ironic trim

Felt Taco Hat (No-Sew)
Tutorial you can adapt
Materials: yellow felt for the “shell,” plus green/red/brown/yellow felt for lettuce, tomatoes, meat, cheese. Add fusible interfacing for structure, hot-glue, scissors, elastic band.Steps:
- Cut a large semi-circle of yellow felt; attach interfacing to stiffen.
-
Cut taco fillings shapes (lettuce wiggles, tomato semicircles, meat blobs, cheese strips).
-
Arrange and hot-glue toppings onto both sides of the shell.
-
Secure elastic at the open edge so it fits snugly around your head.
-
Trim edges for clean finish.
This gives you a playful taco-shaped headpiece—not a sombrero, but a literal taco hat.
